SOCKS5 Proxies for Scraping, Gaming, and P2P
A SOCKS5 proxy routes your traffic through a remote server at the network socket level, before any application protocol comes into play. Unlike HTTP proxies, which only handle web traffic, SOCKS5 is protocol-agnostic: it forwards TCP and UDP packets (with full support for QUIC) for any application, not just browsers and HTTP clients.
Our SOCKS5 proxies use dedicated datacenter IPs, exclusive to your account, with unlimited bandwidth on every plan. No shared pools, no per-GB billing, no rotating IPs you did not ask for.
What Is a SOCKS5 Proxy?
SOCKS stands for Socket Secure. Version 5 is the current standard - a significant upgrade over SOCKS4 that added UDP support, IPv6 compatibility, and proper authentication.
When you connect through a SOCKS5 proxy, your application opens a connection to the proxy server, which then opens a connection to the target on your behalf. The target sees the proxy's IP, not yours. The proxy does not inspect or modify your traffic - it operates below the application layer, which means it works with any protocol your application uses.
The three things that make SOCKS5 stand out from every other proxy type:
UDP support
SOCKS5 is the only proxy protocol that handles UDP traffic. This is why it works for gaming, voice/video calls, DNS queries, and torrent clients - all of which use UDP. HTTP proxies cannot handle any of this.
No header rewriting
HTTP proxies read and often modify request headers. SOCKS5 passes packets through without touching them, which means fewer errors and no proxy fingerprinting through header manipulation.
Authentication at the protocol level
SOCKS5 supports username/password authentication built into the protocol itself, not bolted on through HTTP headers.
Types of Socks5 proxies we sell
Scale your operations with the right Socks5 proxy for every job - from budget-friendly bulk to undetectable ISP-grade performance.

Datacenter - as low as $1.33/proxy
A cost-effective solution for high-volume, low-risk tasks. While easier to detect and block, these proxies are ideal for time-sensitive operations like data scraping or automated testing on platforms with less stringent security measures. Datacenter SOCKSv5 proxies are easier on your wallet as well due to much lower prices.

ISP - as low as $1.99/proxy
These proxies use ISP-assigned IP addresses that are virtually indistinguishable from residential connections, making them extremely difficult to detect through standard IP verification. With datacenter-grade performance behind them, you get the perfect combination of authentic appearance and blazing-fast speeds.
SOCKS5 vs HTTP Proxy - Which One Do You Need?
The most common question. Short answer: use HTTP proxies for standard web scraping and browser automation. Use SOCKS5 when you need UDP, when you need to proxy non-HTTP traffic, or when your specific tool requires it.
Feature | SOCKS5 Proxy | HTTP Proxy |
|---|---|---|
Protocol support | Any TCP + UDP | HTTP and HTTPS only |
UDP traffic | Yes | No |
P2P / torrents | Yes | No |
Gaming / VoIP | Yes | No |
Web scraping | Good | Excellent |
Browser automation | Good | Excellent |
Header modification | No (passes through) | Yes |
Error rate | Lower (no header rewriting) | Slightly higher |
Speed (HTTP traffic) | Slightly slower | Faster |
Setup complexity | Slightly more complex | Simpler |
Best for | P2P, gaming, UDP apps, non-HTTP | Web scraping, APIs, browsers |
Both products are available. If you are scraping standard websites or running browser automation, HTTP proxies are the simpler and faster choice. If your tools use UDP or you need protocol-agnostic tunneling, SOCKS5 is the right call.
SOCKS5 vs SOCKS4 - What Changed?
SOCKS4 was a functional protocol but had real limitations that made it unsuitable for modern use cases.
Feature | SOCKS5 | SOCKS4 |
|---|---|---|
UDP support | Yes | No |
IPv6 support | Yes | No |
Authentication | Username/password | None |
DNS resolution | Remote (at proxy) | Local (at client) |
Protocol support | TCP + UDP | TCP only |
Actively maintained | Yes | No |
SOCKS4 is effectively obsolete. All modern tools and proxy clients support SOCKS5. If a tool asks which version to use, pick SOCKS5 every time.

SOCKS5 vs VPN - Different Tools for Different Jobs
People often compare SOCKS5 proxies and VPNs because both mask your IP. They work at different layers and serve different purposes.
SOCKS5 Proxy | VPN | |
|---|---|---|
IP masking | Yes | Yes |
Traffic encryption | No | Yes (full tunnel) |
Speed | Faster (no encryption overhead) | Slower |
Per-application routing | Yes | No (all traffic) |
Cost | Per IP, unlimited bandwidth | Per subscription |
UDP support | Yes | Depends on VPN |
Detection | Medium | Low |
Best for | Speed, per-app routing, bulk operations | Privacy, encrypted browsing |
A VPN encrypts everything on your device and routes it through a single tunnel. A SOCKS5 proxy routes specific application traffic without encryption. If you need raw speed and per-application control, SOCKS5 wins. If you need encrypted browsing or full device privacy, use a VPN. They are not substitutes for each other.
Datacenter SOCKS5 vs ISP SOCKS5 - Which One to Buy?
We offer two SOCKS5 products with different IP sources.
Datacenter SOCKS5 (this page) | ISP SOCKS5 Proxies | |
|---|---|---|
IP source | Datacenter servers | IPs from real ISPs |
Speed | Very fast | Fast |
Price | Lower | Higher |
Detection risk | Medium (some sites block DC ranges) | Low (looks like real user traffic) |
Best for | Scraping, gaming, P2P, speed-critical tasks | Sites with strict anti-bot, social platforms |
Bandwidth | Unlimited | Unlimited |
IP stability | Dedicated, static | Dedicated, static |
For most use cases - P2P, gaming, high-volume scraping, uptime monitoring - datacenter SOCKS5 is the right product. If you need IPs that pass as residential or ISP traffic on platforms with strict bot detection, look at ISP SOCKS5 proxies.
SOCKS5 Proxy Use Cases
SOCKS5 Proxy Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a SOCKS5 proxy?
A SOCKS5 proxy is a server that routes your traffic at the network socket level, before any application protocol. It forwards TCP and UDP packets for any application - not just HTTP. When you connect through it, the target sees the proxy's IP. The proxy does not inspect or modify your traffic.
Does SOCKS5 support UDP?
Yes - and that is its primary advantage over HTTP proxies. SOCKS5 is the only proxy protocol that handles UDP traffic. This makes it the correct choice for torrent clients, online gaming, VoIP, and DNS queries - all of which rely on UDP.
Does SOCKS5 support QUIC?
QUIC runs over UDP, and SOCKS5 is the only proxy protocol with native UDP support - so yes, SOCKS5 can tunnel QUIC traffic. The proxy server needs to have the UDP ASSOCIATE command fully implemented, which not all providers enable by default. Our proxies support UDP ASSOCIATE, so QUIC-based connections including HTTP/3 traffic route correctly. If a client falls back to TCP/TLS (HTTP/2) when proxied, that is a client-side behavior, not a proxy limitation.
What is the difference between SOCKS5 and HTTP proxies?
HTTP proxies only handle HTTP and HTTPS web traffic. SOCKS5 handles any TCP or UDP traffic from any application. For standard web scraping and browser automation, HTTP proxies are simpler and slightly faster. For P2P, gaming, or non-HTTP protocols, SOCKS5 is the only option.
Is SOCKS5 better than a VPN?
For speed and per-application routing, yes. SOCKS5 has no encryption overhead, so connections are faster. It also lets you route only specific applications through the proxy while the rest of your traffic goes direct. A VPN encrypts all traffic from your device. If you need encryption, use a VPN. If you need speed and control, SOCKS5 wins.
Can I get SOCKS5 for free?
Free SOCKS5 proxy lists exist but are unreliable, short-lived, often compromised, and almost always shared with thousands of other users. For any use case that requires consistent performance - scraping, gaming, P2P - a dedicated paid proxy is the practical choice. Shared free proxies fail when you need them most.
Is a SOCKS5 proxy anonymous?
Yes. The target server sees the proxy's IP address, not yours. SOCKS5 does not modify or add identifying headers to your traffic the way some HTTP proxies do. Combined with dedicated IPs, this gives you clean anonymity without header fingerprinting.
Can SOCKS5 proxies bypass firewalls?
In many cases, yes. Because SOCKS5 operates below the application layer and does not use standard HTTP port patterns, it can pass through firewalls that block HTTP proxies. The effectiveness depends on how the firewall is configured.
What protocols does SOCKS5 support?
SOCKS5 supports TCP (used by HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, and most application protocols) and UDP (used by DNS, gaming, VoIP, torrents). It also supports IPv4 and IPv6 addressing.
